A man who is 23 years old has been accused of killing his mother, who was discovered dead with several stab wounds.
Alan Williams, 23, appeared in Liverpool Crown Court via video call from Ashworth Hospital today and denied the charge of murder.
Lorraine Cullen, 43, was found deceased in her Huyton residence. Merseysideon the morning of May 11 2022, and Williams was apprehended the same day.
After her death, it was confirmed that Williams, who was 21 at the time, had been detained under the Mental Health Act and was receiving treatment.
He has been confined to the psychiatric hospital in Maghull since his arrest.
Williams will undergo a five-day trial starting on July 22, and Judge David Aubrey KC has ordered him to be kept in custody ahead of a further hearing on May 31.
A friend of the family, Paula McNally, previously expressed her admiration for Lorraine, saying: ‘She was my friend and her daughter is friends with my son.
‘We’ve all known her for quite some time. She was just the life and soul of the party. She was friendly, so optimistic and just talkative. She was never a negative person.’
