According to police, a man shot and killed his former dentist during a conflict on Thursday afternoon.
Officials claim Mohammed Abdulkareem, 29, entered Smile Plus Dentistry & Orthodontics in El Cajon, southern California, with a gun around 4.15pm.
Wearing all black, he reportedly shot and injured two men and a woman.
Abdulkareem then fled the scene in a U-Haul pick-up truck, which led to a five-hour manhunt. The search ended when a concerned citizen found the abandoned vehicle in San Diego, about 20 miles away.
The suspect was found near the truck, allegedly carrying a loaded handgun and multiple magazines.
One of the men died on the spot, while the two other victims were taken to the hospital in ‘serious but stable’ condition.
The deceased has been identified as Dr. Benjamin Harouni, a Jewish dentist who worked at the clinic owned by his father.
He had recently celebrated his birthday only nine days before the shooting.
Initial reports suggest the planned attack was well-prepared, as records show Abdulkareem legally obtained the gun two weeks ago, while the truck was rented just a few hours before the incident.
The El Cajon Police Department stated, ‘While the exact motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, it is believed that Abdulkareem was a disgruntled former customer.’
Abdulkareem has been detained in a San Diego jail, without bail, on charges including murder and attempted murder.
