A con artist caused an NHS worker homeless to become unemployed and homeless after assuring him of a fresh start in Dubai, and she was not put in prison.

Sian White, 26, pretended to be a rich medical lawyer to persuade a man that the job and housing he was offered in the Emirates was legitimate.

However, the 'exciting opportunity' was not real, and the expenses he paid for the flights and hotel were never given back.

Instead, White used the victim’s personal information to apply for 22 loans, credit cards, and bank accounts.

White, from Pickering, North Yorkshire, confessed to controlling and coercive behavior and fraud at Newcastle Crown Court.

Prosecutor Michael Cahill stated that White met with the victim in August 2020 after meeting him on Tinder.

She claimed to live in a luxurious apartment in Newcastle and seemed to be a 'successful professional'.

Mr Cahill said: 'She told him her father was a successful millionaire property developer who owned property around the country. The millionaire father was fictional.'

White even claimed her fictional dad would rent one of his homes to the victim in the upscale suburb of Jesmond.

Mr Cahill said: 'He began to receive text messages from a mobile phone number who introduced himself as the father, Dave. In fact, it was the defendant.'

The court heard 'Dave' offered a number of homes to the victim, but there always seemed to be a problem preventing the move from being completed.

In January 2021, the man eventually moved into lavish Central Lofts in the heart of Newcastle and was given a lease agreement by 'Dave'.

Days later, he was offered a job managing social media for a sports management company in Dubai, which led him to leave his NHS job.

The victim spent £600 on plane tickets for him and White, with the promise he would be reimbursed by the fictional company.

From February 1, 2021, to March 31, 2021, the couple were in Dubai.

White continued to create more characters to further her fraud.

This includes 'James' the manager of the company to set up employment, and 'Sophie' from HR.

White’s fraud was exposed when the man received a call about his car parked at Central Lofts, which he believed was his home.

However, it turned out to be a 30-day rental taken out by White.

By this time, the victim was homeless, unemployed, and had spent all of his savings.

In an impact statement, he said he feels 'cold, detached, and suspicious' towards people.

He described White as a 'toxic and warped individual', adding: 'So much of her life has been lying, stealing, deceiving, and defrauding.'

White also pleaded guilty to fraud offenses involving landlords, housemates, and other unsuspecting individuals.

Mr Recorder Toby Hedworth KC told her: 'You have demonstrated the ability to be one of the most compulsively dishonest defendants to appear before this court and that’s saying something.

'You used very advanced techniques to cheat regular people who were either renting out, sharing, or looking for a place to stay, or people you wanted to exploit.'

He gave her a suspended two-year sentence with rehabilitation conditions and 150 hours of unpaid work.
