As household expenses keep going up, it may be tempting to ignore the situation.

However, there is a simple money-saving trick that all households can use to ensure they are getting good value for their money. Starting today, many UK customers are facing additional price increases from internet companies such as BT, EE,

Virgin Media and Sky, with some bills going up by more than 8% at the beginning of April. Unfortunately, this is not a joke for April Fool’s. Ways to reduce internet costs

Don't worry as there are ways to lower your internet subscription expenses. First, search for better deals by considering switching to other providers.

‘As of 1 April, numerous individuals will experience price increases, particularly for broadband,’ said Natalie Hitchins, head of home products and services at Which?

‘Our research indicates that switching providers when you're no longer bound by a contract can reduce broadband, pay TV, and mobile expenses by as much as £187.’

Similarly, conduct a brief investigation to see if there are any Altnets available in your area – these are high-speed internet providers that usually offer more affordable rates.

Then, reach out to your current internet provider. By politely indicating that you're considering leaving, they might propose a deal to retain you.

Lastly, check your broadband speed against your expected monthly usage. Super-fast WiFi can be costly, but you might not actually need it.

For basic browsing, 5-10 Mbps is sufficient. If you engage in video calls and HD streaming, you'll need around 10-20 Mbps.

Which internet providers are raising prices?

    – Broadband, landline, mobile, and TV users: 7.9%

BT Broadband, landline, and mobile users: 7.9%

EE – – Broadband and landline users: 7.9%

Plusnet – Broadband and landline users who signed up before January 22, 2024: 6%

Shell – Broadband and TV users, including Sky Stream and Sky Glass users: 6.7%

Sky – Broadband and landline users: 7.7%

TalkTalk – Broadband and mobile users who took out a deal or upgraded on or after 1 November 2022: 7.9%

    Three Virgin Media

    – Most broadband, landline, and TV users: 8.8% – Pay-monthly broadband, mobile, tablet, or smartwatch users: 7.9%.
