Video from a dashboard camera captured the moment a double-decker bus crashed into a BMW that pulled out into a bus lane while waiting in heavy traffic.
A woman, teenage girl, and a boy managed to avoid serious harm in the accident, which occurred in Small Heath, Birminghamon Wednesday morning.
No one else was harmed, even though the BMW crashed into three other cars.
Social media users have been discussing who was at fault – with many blaming the BMW driver, while others noted that the bus seemed to be traveling too fast.
One person commenting on the video, obtained by the Birmz Is Grime blog, remarked: ‘The car is entirely at fault, he shouldn't have entered that lane. But why was the bus moving that quickly in the first place?’
Another stated: ‘Even though it appears that the bus was speeding, it was the car driver's fault for entering the bus lane – right?’
A third person wrote: ‘So a car was in the bus lane* big deal. How did the bus driver not see the car??!! Plus the bus was moving way too fast.’
Another person added: ‘How is the bus moving as if there's no car in the lane? Even if it's in his lane, you don't just crash into the car to get it out of the way.’
One more said: ‘The BMW driver should have checked the mirrors.’
A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on Small Heath Highway at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.
‘An ambulance and paramedic officer were dispatched to the scene where, upon arrival, crews found that a bus and four cars had been involved in a collision.
‘There were three patients: a woman, a teenage girl, and a young boy.
‘They were all evaluated by ambulance staff but did not need hospital treatment, so they were given self-care guidance and released at the scene.’
West Midlands Police verified that officers were called, but no one was arrested or seriously injured.
