POTTSTOWN — One suspect is in custody as police investigate a shooting in the borough that injured at least two men.
Pottstown Police Chief Mick Markovich announced on Friday that Jamiere Williams, residing at 403 Beech St., is facing pending charges following the shooting on Thursday night. Video footage was used by the police to establish that Williams was one of the alleged shooters, and also one of the two men who were wounded.
Chief Markovich released the following details about the shootings:
On Thursday, around 9:20 p.m., police received a Shotspotter alert for shots fired in the area of Beech and N. Evans streets. Additionally, Montgomery County 911 Dispatch started receiving calls about the shots while enroute to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found a 24-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his back on the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of Beech St. The victim informed the police that he was entering his front apartment door when he heard gunshots and realized he had been shot in the back.
Police confirmed that the victim was not involved in the incident. He was taken to a local hospital for assessment and treatment by Goodwill Ambulance.
While securing the crime scene, officers were informed that Montgomery County Dispatch received another call indicating a shooting at Beech and North Franklin streets.
Subsequently, officers found 18-year-old Jamiere Williams on the porch of 403 Beech St. with a gunshot wound to his neck. Williams told the police that he was at a nearby store when someone started shooting at him. Williams was only wearing shorts and socks when he was found by the police.
Williams was taken to a local trauma center for treatment by Goodwill Ambulance.
After reviewing video footage from the intersections of Beech and North Evans streets and Beech and North Franklin streets, the police were able to confirm that Williams was one of the shooters. Following the shooting, Williams ran to his residence at 403 Beech St., where he is believed to have hidden his gun and changed his clothing.
Before the shooting, video footage showed Williams entering the Eagle store at Beech and North Evans streets. A short time later, two teenagers entered the store. They quickly exited the store and were heard arguing and saying, “I’m strapped.”
Williams and the other suspect both pulled out handguns and started shooting indiscriminately at each other. A total of 15 empty casings were found at the scene. After the shooting, Williams ran east on Beech and the other suspect ran south on North Evans St.
A search warrant was executed on Friday morning at William’s residence at 403 Beech St. During the execution of the warrant, detectives found the blood-soaked clothing Williams was wearing during the shooting, three handguns, an AK-47, and a backpack containing over a half-pound of marijuana, packaging material, and a scale.
Ballistic testing will be carried out on the recovered handguns, along with DNA analysis on the guns and blood.
Detectives are still investigating the incident and gathering evidence from various locations. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Pottstown Detectives at 610-970-6574.
