Around 6 out of 10 voters who support President Biden say they would replace both him and former President Trump on the 2024 ballot if they could, as per a recent poll.
A Pew Research report found 62 percent of Biden supporters expressed their desire to swap out both candidates at the top of the ticket, while only 35 percent of Trump supporters said the same.
On the other hand, 27 percent of Trump voters and only 4 percent of Biden voters indicated they would keep both candidates. Roughly a third of each candidate’s supporters said they would keep their candidate and replace the other.
Both Biden and Trump have secured the delegates necessary to become their parties’ likely presidential nominees in the fall, but the Pew Research data indicates a growing frustration among voters about the possibility of a 2024 Biden-Trump matchup. This sentiment is also evident as Biden faces protest votes in his party primaries from Democrats disenchanted with the administration’s handling of Israel’s conflict in Gaza, as well as concerns that young people are becoming less supportive of his party.
In both parties, younger voters were more inclined than older voters to express their willingness to replace both candidates if given the chance – 73 percent of Biden supporters aged 18-49 and 38 percent of Trump supporters in the same age group.
Fewer voters also believe “it really matters who wins” the 2024 presidential race compared to the same point in the 2020 cycle. At that time, 80 percent of Trump supporters and 77 percent of Biden supporters believed the race really matters — but those figures have now dropped to 70 percent each.
The report is based on data from a Pew Research American Trends Panel conducted April 8-14 among 8,709 respondents, and the results had a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.
