Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed on Sunday the importance of a “crucial” weapons system to assist in winning the war against Russia.
NBC host Kristen Welker questioned Zelensky about Ukraine's ability to win the war following the House's approval of additional aid, including $61 billion. Zelensky responded that having the necessary weapons systems, such as long-range weapons and air defense systems, is essential for victory.
Zelensky expressed belief that the support from the House will strengthen Ukraine's armed forces and believes they have a chance for victory if they receive the needed weapon system. He stressed the importance of the aid going towards tangible weapon systems rather than being distributed in a scattered manner.
He mentioned the need for hard-to-obtain crucial weapon systems, such as long-range artillery and ATACMs, emphasizing the importance of long-range weapons and air defense to minimize casualties on the front line due to the current limitations of their weapons.
He mentioned the difficulty in predicting the duration of the conflict without knowing when Ukraine will receive the weapons systems. He also highlighted that despite approval to send F-16 fighter jets, Ukraine still does not possess them.
Zelensky stated that there is an opportunity to stabilize the situation and take the initiative if they have access to the weapon systems. However, he emphasized that the timeline of the war depends on when they receive the aid.
