A woman working at a plant died after attempting to pick up her AirPod golf cart plant died after trying to pick up her AirPod AirPod from underneath a conveyor belt and getting stuck in the machinery.
Alyssa Drinkard, who was 21 and worked as a line worker at Club Car plant in Evans, Georgia, accidentally dropped her earbud under the conveyor around 9.45pm last Friday, according to an incident report from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Drinkard got trapped in a chain that moves the conveyor, as reported by her co-worker Fae’Zsha Smith to investigators.
Smith mentioned that she was unable to free Drinkard due to the way she was stuck and requested maintenance to stop the conveyor.
‘They began disassembling it once the machine was turned off and called 911,’ the report reads. Emergency responders extracted Drinkard 'by cutting the metal frame surrounding the conveyor'.
Drinkard had a pulse and emergency personnel conducted life-saving measures and took her to a hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning, as per WJBF.
Club Car confirmed the employee's death and stated that it is collaborating with the contractor and authorities to investigate the incident.
‘First responders were immediately notified, and we appreciate their prompt response in providing medical care and transportation to the hospital where the worker unfortunately later passed away,’ the company informed The Augusta Press The Augusta Press.
‘Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with the family, friends and all impacted by this loss.’
Smith said she was working opposite Drinkard when she dropped her AirPod and informed the victim that she would assist in retrieving it when it was safe.
‘She said, “It’s OK, I’ll just get new ones,”‘ recounted Smith.
A moment later, Smith witnessed Drinkard trapped in the conveyor.
‘I’m kind of traumatized from seeing her that way,’ Smith said.
Club Car is located in Augusta and has been producing golf carts, including those utilized in the PGA of America and European Tour, for a long time, according to its website.
Drinkard passed away more than eight years after an Ohio man was killed while entering a restricted area of a theme park to retrieve his iPhone and getting struck by a rollercoaster.
