A businessman has pleaded guilty to conspiring with the leader of a splinter polygamous group near the Arizona-Utah border to transport underage girls across state lines. Moroni Johnson is the first man to be convicted in what authorities say was a plan to organize sexual acts involving children. Johnson, who faces 10 years to life in prison, admitted that he took part in a plan to transport four girls under 18 for sexual activity. Officials say the collaboration between Johnson and the group’s leader, self-proclaimed prophet Samuel Bateman, lasted for three years until September 2022. Bateman has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his trial is set for Sept. 10.
