Quality Street is changing The Purple One in a big way

With 11 different sweets to choose from, there’s lots of variety in a tub of Quality Street, but that won’t stop people from having a favourite. (And if it’s not the Strawberry Delight, then you’re wrong.)

One that’s always been especially popular is The Purple One, which has a milk chocolate shell with caramel and a hazelnut in the middle.

If this particular chocolate is your go-to then you might want to prepare yourself, as Nestlé has just revealed that they’re making some major changes to it, along with another iconic Quality Street pick.

The brand announced a ‘new era’ for the Purple One and the Orange Crunch, which will both be undergoing a transformation for 2024.

According to Nestlé, the sweets are still the same ones you have always known and loved in terms of taste, however they’ve had a bit of a makeover, with both varieties taking on a brand new shape to look more like the Caramel Swirl.

As well as this change, the Orange Crunch has also got a new wrapper, moving from a foil one to a paper wrapper.

The change comes after a successful trial at the end of 2023, which saw the new The Purple One sold in a number of bags. Some chocolate fans might also have eaten the new Orange Crunch over the Christmas period as it went out in a limited number of tubs, cartons, and tins in the run up to December 25.

Speaking about the makeover, Jemma Handley, senior brand manager for Quality Street, said: ‘We’ll be permanently rolling out new shapes for two of our much-loved sweets.

‘We know how iconic Quality Street sweets are and we have taken great care and attention to make sure that it is the same great tasting The Purple One and Orange Crunch that people know and love in their iconic coloured wrappers.’

She added: ‘At Quality Street, we also know that fans feel very passionately about their own particular favourites, and we make sure there is something for everyone within the mix.’

This comes after Nestlé sent fans wild in February after releasing a new twist on Quality Street, with an Easter egg inspired by the sweets.

The Quality Street Golden Collection Incredible Egg brings together fudge and caramel pieces in a milk chocolate caramel-flavoured shell, accompanied by a pack of Quality Street caramel, fudge and toffees.

It’s currently being sold in a number of major supermarkets, including Asda where it’s £10, and Waitrose and Ocado too.

Savvy shoppers have also spotted the new product in B&M where it’s likely even cheaper.

Chocolate lovers have been going wild over the Quality Street makeover on social media after a snap of the egg was shared on the New Foods UK page on Facebook.

Lisa Dolatowski said: ‘I know what egg I want!!’ While Louise Cromack begged: ‘Mum get me this pleaseee for Easter.’

And Leah Susans claimed she was ‘on the hunt’ for the egg, as Holli Mortimer added: ‘Oh wow yum.’

Joining the Quality Street egg on the Easter line-up for Nestlé this year is the Rowntree’s Randoms Incredible Egg (£12). Smarties is also launching a new egg this Spring called the Smarties Sea Splash (£7.49) and KitKat fans will be pleased to hear the 'greatest Easter egg ever' is also on sale again, and it's the KitKat Caramel Cookie Collision Incredible Egg (£12).

This version contains actual bits of cookie in a milk chocolate shell, and it includes two KitKat Chunky Caramel bars and a pack of KitKat Cookie Dough flavored Mini Eggs. Yum.
