A man is accused of stealing over $1,100 worth of groceries during five visits to Wegmans

A Pennsburg man is facing two sets of retail theft charges after allegedly stealing groceries from the Giant Food Store in Hatfield Township and the Wegmans in Montgomeryville.

Ryan Reago, 29, has been charged with felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property in each case. He’s currently free on $5,000 unsecured bail in the Hatfield case and $1,000 unsecured bail in the Montgomery Township case, court records show.

Investigators from the Montgomery Township Police Department were alerted on Feb. 3 by a Wegmans employee about a series of thefts they believed were done by the same person. According to the police, an unidentified man — later identified as Reago — stole $1,134.29 worth of items from the store over five occasions between Jan. 1 and Feb. 1.

The employee gave investigators records, photos, and surveillance footage of the incidents. This helped them conclude that Reago was the suspect after comparing the evidence to footage from a theft in Hatfield, where Reago was arrested, as stated in the criminal complaint.

Investigators said the same vehicle was used in all instances.

Charges were brought against Reago in the Hatfield case on Jan. 24, and both accusations were held for trial during his preliminary hearing on Feb. 21. His next court appearance in that case is a formal arraignment at county court on April 3.

Montgomery Township Police filed charges against Reago on Feb. 21, and he was arraigned on those charges on Feb. 27. His next court appearance in that case is a preliminary hearing on March 26 at 11:45 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
