The management of Win Process company in Ban Khai district of Rayong province is expected to face more charges after a fire broke out at a warehouse storing chemicals about two weeks ago.
The provincial governor of Rayong has directed officials to press charges against the company’s management for illegally storing hazardous chemicals. They found that more warehouses in Muang district, also owned by Win Process, contain hazardous materials without the necessary permits.
Experts were dispatched to the warehouses to identify the chemicals stored, and they will be relocated to other places to prevent fires.
Chemicals from the warehouse in Ban Khai district are still seeping into the pond, leading to concerns about potential leakage of contaminated water into the environment during rainfall.
Three additional ponds are being cleaned to prevent leakage from the warehouse compound.
During the weekend, Democrat party deputy leader Suchatvee Suwansawat visited the warehouse and met with community leaders in the area. He stated that the party will address the concerns of the people with the government.
Meanwhile, Aditad Vasinonta, the director-general of the Department of Primary Industries and Mines, reported that the initial shipments of cadmium slag, transported from Bangkok and Samut Sakhon to Tak province, are now securely stored in a warehouse.
The floor of the warehouse has been paved to prevent cadmium seepage into the ground, and a drainage system has been installed to stop contaminated water from leaking into the environment.
