Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) expressed displeasure with the 'The View' hosts for criticizing him as the sole Black Republican senator, but he believes the Black GOP is gaining momentum.
“I’m never surprised when the ladies at ‘The View’ go at it again,” he said in a video shared on social media platform X. “They’re attacking me for being the only Black Republican in the Senate.”
Scott pointed out that the talk show's female hosts have repeatedly contributed to the defeat of Black Republicans running for the Senate.
The South Carolina senator was responding to comments made by co-host Sunny Hostin, who said if Scott were chosen as former President Trump’s vice president, he wouldn’t assist in gaining Black voters for the upcoming election.
Scott, who halted his GOP primary bid last November and later endorsed Trump in January, is rumored to be a potential running mate for the former president. Hostin stated, “If anyone thinks that Tim Scott is going to bring over a bunch of Black men, they really need to just get with it, because Tim Scott is the only African American senator in the Republican Party for a reason,” during a discussion about which lawmaker could help Trump appeal to the most voters. Former Trump administration aide Alyssa Farah Griffin, also a co-host, mentioned that Democrats have only had a few more Black senators than Republicans. Hostin added that Democrats recently had Black senators in all of the top publicly elected offices in the country.
Scott argued that the hosts are fearful of the Black GOP base.
“Four out of 10 Black men want to vote for the Republican Party, doubling the number of Black women interested in voting for the Republican Party,” he said. “What they’re afraid of is the monopoly is over.”
Scott continued, “The Republican Party, the GOP, is gaining ground in my community. God Bless America.”
