    Former Congressman Santos inquired with his ex-colleagues about their willingness to create a resolution to expel Cuellar

    Former Representative George Santos (R-N.Y.) called out his former House peers on Saturday, questioning whether they would develop a resolution to expel Representative Henry Cuellar (D-Texas).

    Santos directly asked Representative Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) on X whether he planned to draft an expulsion resolution for Cuellar or if it was something reserved only for Republicans who change political allegiance. said In a social media post addressed to Representative Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.), Santos stated, “Curious individuals are eager to find out.”

    Last February, Representative Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) along with Torres, and Representatives Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.), Becca Balint (D-Vt.), and Eric Sorensen (D-Ill.) introduced a resolution to expel Santos. Santos alongside was removed from office later in the year, making him the sixth lawmaker ever to be ousted from the lower chamber. “So here’s the thing… is @RepRobertGarcia going to draft an expulsion resolution for Henry Cuellar?” Santos

    wrote in another X post on Saturday, expressing his curiosity. said Cuellar and his spouse were implicated in connection with allegedly accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes and illicitly moving funds on Friday.

    Charges against Cuellar and his spouse were announced for purportedly receiving bribes from an oil company owned by the government of Azerbaijan and a Mexican bank. indicted A DOJ indictment detailed the alleged bribe payments received by the Texas Democrat, which were reportedly laundered through fake consulting contracts, various intermediary companies, and shell corporations owned by Imelda Cuellar. The DOJ relayed this information in a press release about the indictment in the Southern District of Texas.

    Cuellar denied the accusations through a statement from his campaign, asserting their innocence. He expressed, “My wife and I have not committed these alleged crimes.”

    “Every action I have taken in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas,” he stated.

    The Hill has reached out to the offices of Torres and Garcia.
