Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s independent presidential bid may negatively impact former President Trump more than President Biden, as per a new NBC News survey on the election. NBC News conducted a poll on the election. Trump is currently leading Biden by 2 points in the head-to-head survey, but when third party candidates are included, Biden takes the lead over the former president.
In a five-way race involving Trump, Biden, Kennedy, independent Cornel West, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Biden leads by 2 points. In this scenario, he has around 39 percent support compared to Trump's 37 percent, while Kennedy garners about 13 percent of the vote.
Around 7 percent of Biden supporters switched to Kennedy in a head-to-head matchup. For Trump supporters, this proportion rose to 15 percent.
The poll also shows that Republicans have a more favorable opinion of Kennedy compared to Democrats. Approximately 40 percent of GOP voters like Kennedy, while only 16 percent of Democrats do. A majority of Democrats, 53 percent, hold a negative view of the candidate.
Pollster Jeff Horwitt stated, “At this stage, [Kennedy’s] appeal seems to be greater among Trump supporters than Biden supporters.”
Both Biden and Trump have criticized Kennedy, while political analysts question the impact of this unconventional independent candidate. Kennedy, a lifelong Democrat and vaccine skeptic, has garnered support from both parties.
There are conflicting polls on the impact of Kennedy's candidacy, with most suggesting that he could harm Biden's chances more than Trump's.
