Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) stated on Saturday that if the U.S. doesn't approve more aid for Ukraine, the country is likely to be defeated in its war with Russia.
Bacon expressed concern that without the aid, Ukraine may not be able to withstand the support Russia is receiving from North Korea, Iran, and China, and warned that Ukraine's collapse could lead to a broader Russian expansion, threatening other nations like Moldova, Latvia, and Estonia.
The Nebraska Republican cautioned that if Ukraine were to crumble, Russia might target other countries like Moldova, Latvia, and Estonia.
Bacon also suggested that if Ukraine falls, Moldova could face a similar fate of being absorbed by Russia, and accused Russia of labeling these nations as illegitimate.
He added that it's crucial to stand up to the bully now, as the situation could worsen if action isn't taken.
The comments were made a day after the House advanced a foreign aid spending package that includes support for Ukraine, Israel, and other U.S. allies, which was approved by the lower chamber in a 316-94 vote on Friday.
The House is expected to vote on the package on Saturday afternoon, despite opposition from hard-line conservatives, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who has initiated action against Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in coordination with Democrats.
While a timeline for the potential ouster vote has not yet been determined, Greene has garnered support from at least three other Republicans.
Retired Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman stressed the importance of the U.S. passing new aid for Ukraine Friday, emphasizing that it would greatly boost the morale of the Eastern European country.
Vindman stated in an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Friday that the aid from the U.S. will have a significant impact on the morale of Ukraine and on Russia's morale as well.
