A man is threatening to explode himself at the Iranian consulate in Paris.

There is a police cordon around the Iranian embassy, which is less than two miles from the Eiffel Tower in the French capital.

A man is threatening to explode himself at the consulate where a police situation is happening, as reported by French radio station Europe One.

He is said to be wearing a bomb belt and carrying an ‘object similar to a grenade,’ the radio station reports.

Strongly armed special forces officers were seen around the embassy.

Authorities have asked the public to stay away from the area, according to Al Arabiya English.

A person at the Iranian embassy answered a call from Reuters but refused to give more information, according to France 24 news.

Train services have been stopped on nearby subway lines 6 and 9 for safety reasons, as per transport provider RATP.

The embassy is located on Avenue d’Iéna in the 16th arrondissement on the north side of River Seine, not far from some of the city’s main tourist spots like the Louvre and Champs-Élysées.
