Over 400 lawmakers, civil rights leaders, musicians, and actors have written to President Biden asking him to endorse a set of Congressional bills focusing on racial fairness and reparative justice.

The letter, led by Marcus Anthony Hunter, a professor at UCLA specializing in sociology and African American studies, who created the term Black Lives Matter, is requesting Biden to promptly meet with Congressional members and advocates to address the remaining tasks of promoting comprehensive equity through executive orders and actions.

The letter emphasizes that the discussion about urgent executive action on reparations is not only about policies but also about the people of the United States, the future of democracy, national unity, and security.

Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP; civil rights lawyer Ben Crump; the Rev. Al Sharpton; David J. Johns, executive director and CEO of the National Black Justice Coalition; and several Democratic congressional members including Reps. Barbara Lee (Calif), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Cori Bush (Mo.), and Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.) are among the signatories of the letter.

Biden has received previous letters from advocates this year.

Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2023, policies on police reform, and federal reparations.

A letter to Biden on Friday asserted that the more than 400 signatories are prepared to collaborate with the administration to advance the comprehensive equity framework outlined in previous open letters.

The letter concludes by stating that the state of the Union depends on it.
