The Thai Air Force (RTAF) is ready to use a C-130 plane as part of a backup plan to bring Thai citizens back from Taiwan if it becomes necessary, according to its spokesperson AVM Boonlert Andara.
On Wednesday, a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit the east coast of Taiwan, leading to landslides and building collapses.
This is the most powerful earthquake to strike Taiwan in 25 years. At least nine people have died and over 900 others have been injured, with more than 100 structures damaged.
There are no reports of Thais being affected by the earthquake at this time.
Boonlert informed the press that the Air Force's leader, AM Punpakdee Pattanakul, has given instructions to prepare for the evacuation of Thai citizens if needed, or to transport aid to Taiwan.
“We are prepared in case the government needs us to provide assistance,” the spokesperson stated.
Previously, the RTAF used its C-130 plane to bring Thai citizens home from areas affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Sudan.
