The bipartisan organization No Labels will not present an independent presidential candidate after being unable to find a suitable person for the job, according to reports from various sources.
It is expected that No Labels will announce on Monday its failure to secure a suitable White House contender and its decision to not continue with its 2024 “unity” bid. The Wall Street Journal reported the announcement.
Nancy Jacobson, the CEO of the group, stated, “No Labels has always said we would only offer our ballot line to a ticket if we could identify candidates with a credible path to winning the White House. No such candidates emerged, so the responsible course of action is for us to stand down.”
One of the major questions for this election cycle was whether No Labels would proceed with an independent ticket as an alternative to the unpopular President Biden and former President Trump.
Leaders considered former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as potential candidates before narrowing down the list as more names dropped out.
Last month, the group missed its self-imposed deadline to provide an update on their strategy, extending it to mid-April. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also declined the position, joining a long list of potential recruits who had done the same.
