A section of a London hospital has been shut down because a woman who swallowed poison was brought in.
Areas in Croydon Hospital was closed this morning after there were reports of a lady being treated for poisoning.
Met Police stated that officers were alerted at 3.46am by London Ambulance Service about a woman who had swallowed poison in Thornton Heath, south London.
Two Metropolitan Police officers who came into contact with the substance are also in the Croydon University Hospital, previously known as the Mayday, under observation.
The authorities stated: ‘Police were called at 3.46am by London Ambulance Service regarding a woman who had swallowed poison at a location in Thornton Heath.
‘The woman was taken to a South London hospital by LAS where she was found to be in possession of a possible hazardous substance.’
Officers and the fire brigade established safety cordons and closures while specialized officers ‘examined the item and safety procedures were enacted’, the Met said.
Ambulances and emergency vehicles are being allowed into the hospital during the incident.
