Christian Bale was totally unrecognizable as Frankenstein’s monster in the initial official photos of The Bride.
The 50-year-old is the main actor in the star-filled cast for the upcoming drama, alongside Jessie Buckley as his bride, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz and Peter Sarsgaard.
He also joined forces with his former Batman co-star, Maggie Gyllenhaal, for the project – which the latter is directing.
On Instagram, she shared the first images from the set before the release next year, introducing us to Frankenstein and his bride.
Christian could be seen with the monster’s distinctive scars on his forehead and chest in the black-and-white photo, also displaying an intriguing tattoo.
He appeared very different from his usual sophisticated self, wearing a light, pin-striped jacket and posing with his hand stroking a full head of hair.
His bride (Jessie) seemed equally eerie as she looked at something off camera, posing with a dark substance smeared across her face in a black outfit.
Together with the amazing pictures, Maggie simply wrote: ‘Meet The Bride & Frank 🖤 #TheBride #CameraTest #FirstLook #JessieBuckley #ChristianBale.’
The Bride marks her second time in the director’s chair, as she also directed The Lost Daughter – collaborating with Jessie.
Little else is known about the plot, but the official description reads: ‘A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the help of a Dr Euphronius in creating a companion for himself.
‘The two revive a murdered young woman and the Bride is born.
‘She is beyond what either of them intended, sparking an intense romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.’
Unfortunately, we have to wait to see how The Bride unfolds as it is scheduled for release on October 2, 2025.
However, this isn’t the only Frankenstein movie in the works as Guillermo del Toro is working on his own, separate project.
The Shape of Water filmmaker will be adapting the classic novel for Netflix, with Saltburn star Jacob Elordi taking on the role of the iconic monster, after Andrew Garfield had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
Oscar Isaac is set to portray Dr Frankenstein while Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz are also in the cast.
Bring on the battle of the Frankensteins.
The Bride will hit theaters on October 2, 2025.
