Mark Williams executed one of the best set of shots during the final frame of his 10-9 victory over Tom Ford at the Tour Championship, even though he was extremely tired.

The three-time world champion was not confident about his chances in the match in Manchester because he had been playing pool in China shortly before the event, but he ended up performing well for much of the game.

Ford seemed to be close to reaching the quarter-finals when he gained a 54-point lead in the deciding frame before missing a relatively easy red ball.

What followed was not easy, with the table being extremely challenging as the 49-year-old got out of his seat.

Many balls were in difficult positions, but it did not stop the Welsh Potting Machine, who made 66 to win the frame and the match in a dramatic manner.

'I don't know how I managed it but that was one of the best set of shots I've ever executed,' he stated.

Williams told ITV: 'Incredible. I was extremely tired for the last hour-and-a-half, nearly two hours. I couldn't even make 20 if you lined the balls up. I was absolutely exhausted.'

'I thought it was all over, and I do not know where that great set of shots came from in the last frame. It was probably one of the best I've ever executed,' he stated.

'It's well known that I have only just returned from China, I'm exhausted, dealing with jet lag, and I felt it out there, struggling. But I played decently throughout the match. The last four or five frames, I struggled a bit. Then a break, I don't know where it came from, maybe my luck.'

'I can't remember much about it, just that I never played a safety shot. If there was anything I had to go for it because if I got dragged down in 50-minute frames, I probably would have fallen asleep in my chair. It's definitely one of the best because there were three or four red balls on the cushion, and the blue ball was also in a difficult position. Great performance.'

Ford regretted missing the red ball, and was amazed by what he saw from his seat, saying: 'I just lost focus on the red ball in the end. I was trying to get in a perfect position for the black ball. But I have to say that's one of the best set of shots I've ever seen.'

Former world champion Ken Doherty commented while on punditry duty: 'When Mark Williams came to the table, the position of the balls made it seem impossible for him to clear up from there. Absolutely impossible.'

The incredible performance secured Williams a place in the quarter-finals against Judd Trump, which will be played over two sessions on Thursday.

The other matches in the last eight will see Ronnie O'Sullivan play against Ali Carter, Zhang Anda face Gary Wilson, and Mark Allen meet Ding Junhui.
