The White House said the Israeli attack that killed World Central Kitchen staff represents a bigger issue

The White House expressed concern about the Israeli strike that killed aid workers in Gaza, but indicated that the U.S. support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas would not change.

John Kirby, a spokesperson on national security, expressed anger at the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike that killed World Central Kitchen workers providing food to civilians in Gaza.

Kirby stated that a thorough investigation should be conducted swiftly and comprehensively, with the findings made public and appropriate accountability established.

Kirby also emphasized the need for the IDF to improve processes to protect civilians and aid workers, citing the challenges in distributing aid in Gaza.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took responsibility Tuesday for a deadly strike that killed seven aid workers for the charity group World Central Kitchen, an organization led by chef Jose Andres, the day prior.

Netanyahu acknowledged the strike, stating that a thorough inquiry would be conducted to prevent a recurrence.

The deaths of the foreign aid workers are likely to increase anger and frustration with Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, where more than 32,000 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds of thousands face famine.

Kirby stated that the U.S. would continue to urge Israel to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers and deliver assistance to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

However, the U.S. reiterated its military support for Israel since the conflict began with Hamas' attacks last October that killed over 1,000 Israelis.

Kirby emphasized the ongoing threat posed by Hamas and the need for Israel to defend itself, while also working to prevent incidents like the one on October 7.

Kirby stressed the commitment to working with Israel to ensure precision in their actions and improve aid distribution.
