William Delahunt, who was a long-serving Democratic representative for Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, as confirmed by a family spokesperson
Delahunt passed away at his residence in Quincy, surrounded by family, as stated by George Reagan of Reagan Communications Group. He was 82.
Reagan told the Herald that losing Delahunt on Easter weekend provided a small amount of comfort, saying, "I lost the older brother I never had."
Delahunt represented Massachusetts’ 10th Congressional District from 1997 to 2011. Before going to Washington, he served as the Norfolk County District Attorney for over 22 years, where he established the first prosecutorial unit for domestic violence and sexual assault cases.
He was a part of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and was the chair of the Subcommittee on Europe, among other roles. Delahunt also served as a congressional representative to the United Nations.
Delahunt obtained a law degree from Boston College Law School in 1967 and a bachelor's degree from Middlebury College in 1963.
This is a developing story…
