A judge in New Mexico rejected a request for a new trial from the armorer on the set of the movie 'Rust' after she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of the film's cinematographer.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer also ordered the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, to stay in custody while she goes through the appeals process. The reporting was done by The Associated Press. She was found guilty earlier this month for the shooting that happened on the outskirts of Santa Fe, N.M.

Prosecutors in the case criticized the armorer for not following gun safety measures and bringing live ammunition on the movie set.

Gutierrez-Reed is currently being held in a Santa Fe detention facility. Her sentence could carry up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
