Luke Humphries, the darts world champion, said that there are only two players who can defeat him, Luke Littler being one of them

Luke Humphries thinks that Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen are the only two players who can currently beat him after he won a third successive Premier League night win.

When he made his first appearance in the competition, Humphries secured wins in Nottingham and Brighton, and continued his impressive performance in Dublin on Thursday.

The 29-year-old quickly defeated Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall before triumphing over former world champion Michael Smith in the final with an impressive 107 average.

He is now leading the table by seven points at the halfway stage and believes that few players can match his high standards given his current form.

‘I’m not conceited at all but I believe that if I play my best, only a few individuals can challenge me in that way,’ Humphries told Sky Sports after his victory.

‘I think Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen are the two who can push me and can defeat me when they are at their best.’

‘I feel like I’m performing at the highest level in the world, especially consistently in the past six or seven months, but there are numerous exceptional players and anything can happen every week.’

Van Gerwen, who had a brilliant start to the year and won three of the first four nights, has now gone four weeks without a win as he continues to struggle with a persistent shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Littler suffered a loss in his quarter-final against Michael Smith, causing him to drop out of the top-four as he still seeks his first victory.

The 17-year-old will have a challenging task ahead to return to winning ways in Belfast next week, as he will face a quarter-final match against Humphries in a rematch of their World Championship final in January.
