Exclusive deal
Asda are currently selling the original PlayStation 5 model for £300. I haven’t bought the PlayStation 5 yet because I had hoped the slim edition would be less big and strange looking than the launch console, but for £300 I could probably tolerate the old design.
But then I thought about what game(s) I’d buy alongside it and started looking through PlayStation 5 games and… I don’t know, Spider-Man 2, maybe?
I have an Xbox Series X and a Switch, so I’m covered for multiplatform and indie games. But I just couldn’t find excitement for the PlayStation 5’s available games. I know Microsoft isn’t exactly overflowing with exclusives either, but this generation more than any other I don’t feel an urgency to have Xbox and PlayStation.
Perhaps once the PS5 Pro comes out it will be a better size/shape and come with some incredibly original game that gets me excited, but for now someone else can take advantage of a bargain at Asda instead of me.

GC: The deal does not seem to be available online, so it must only be in-store.
Hope springs eternal
We’ve had a year of people complaining about the lack of new game announcements from Sony and now rumors about the PS5 Pro. It’s all starting to make sense, as Sony is going to want to show these games at their best.
When they show them to the world they are going to say, ‘Footage captured on PS5 Pro’. I’m hoping that an official announcement on a mid-gen update is going to open up the floodgates for more announcements about what else they are working on.

Strange evolution
I traded in a couple of games over the weekend and picked up a copy of Suicide Squad for a total of £2 after trading, my theory being that I wanted something new to play and I would be able to find at least £2 worth of entertainment out of it.
I’m pretty sure it’s worth the £2 but my god what a confused game it is. Some absolutely great dialogue and cut scenes, some OK-ish gunplay and traversal, but just so many miles away from the Batman: Arkham series that it’s hard to believe it’s even from the same studio.
What I find most frustrating though is that I’m constantly thinking how good it could have been if they had done away with live service rubbish and focused on a new single-player experience similar to the Arkham trilogy that served them so well. How we ended up with a pretty dull third person looter shooter from such great roots is truly baffling.

Dream find
That London Gaming Market sounded interesting, I wonder if something similar would ever happen closer to home for me in the Midlands?
You know, more than a couple of times now, I’ve had a dream where I’m wandering around my hometown of Coventry and I stumble upon some hidden gem of a video games store that stocks all kinds of retro games. You know the type of place, several of them appeared in the mid-noughties.
Unfortunately, because it's my subconscious, I can only notice things I already know. But it can get stranger: for example, games like Gunstar Heroes but for the SNES, unusual retro consoles that were never made, or Sonic games that are recognizable but definitely never existed.
I never know what I'm looking for in these nighttime adventures, but if it's at night, I also find an independent fast food place that sells a great cheeseburger for a pound. Yes, I know a McDonald’s double cheeseburger isn't far off from a pound, but still. Every little bit helps, right?

GC: The message below indicates there will be one in Birmingham.
Old-fashioned prices
Good article about London Gaming Market last week.
I am going to the one in Birmingham next month, which is closer for me. It is organized by the same people. Haven’t been to one before, so not sure what to expect. There will be games, obviously, and I will be looking to see what they have for the 3DS and PSP. Just hope the sellers are fair with their prices. If they aren’t competitive with the likes of eBay and CeX then I won’t be buying.
It will be interesting to see what other games related stuff will be there. I wouldn’t mind a few games magazines from my Spectrum and Amiga days, to remember the old times.
Maybe there will be a few arcade machines there to play on.
Or am I expecting too much?
Did any GC readers go to London last weekend or any other past ones? Be nice to hear what they thought of it.

Cold Topic
Alto’s suggestion in Monday’s Inbox, that the next Tomb Raider game should be Lara Croft and the Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs, definitely has my vote. Inbox magic, make it so!
Also, have the weekend Hot Topics stopped again? If it’s due to lack of entries, may I politely suggest the rules weren’t clear on the last one? It was to do with favorite format exclusives, but with the restriction that the game also actually had to be published by the hardware manufacturer, but also not necessarily made by them. I admit I had to read the description a few times before I could work out why I couldn’t write in about Final Fantasy 7 Remake (the example you used)!

GC: It wasn’t just that week’s, we’ve barely been getting enough Hot Topic letters for a while now. The weekday Inbox is far more popular, so we’re giving the Hot Topic a rest for now.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s a flop!? U wot m8. I have gathered a large list of ‘friends’ on PSN over the years and I’m happy to see at least 30% playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
It took me six months till I bought Final Fantasy (was it 15 or 16 with Clive?) and I expect that over a longer period of time Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will sell just fine. It’s a great game.

Half price
I’d be willing to buy a PS5 Pro if the price was right, for the features like wireless charging and more memory from the start. If it came out the same time as GTA 6 then I’d want graphics at the maximum frame rate of 120fps.
I’d want extra features. I’d be willing to spend around £600, sell my normal PlayStation 5 for £300 and get the upgrade for only £300, but it would have to offer a lot more.
David
GC: No open world game will run at 120fps in this generation or probably the next one. Also, having games run at 60fps is sufficient and using more processing power for higher fps is pointless.
What happened?
I don’t understand the current trend in gaming… why is a PS5 Pro being released? Have they fully explored the potential of the PlayStation 5, considering the impressive visuals of Spidey 2 and comparisons with other games? Have they truly enhanced the AI aspect in Gran Turismo? I understand the need for GTA 6, but is it already demanding a more powerful console to run smoothly?
This is why I appreciate the simplicity of Nintendo’s consoles! After playing Zelda, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Hogwarts Legacy (PS5), and Metroid Dread, as well as a lot of Mario Kart, EA Sports FC, and Gran Turismo 7, I'm questioning the shift away from local multiplayer or single screen games.
I might get Helldivers, mainly because I've been playing Fortnite with my kids and have improved at shooters over the years. It's nice to have a lighter alternative alongside more serious games.
Don't we just need a good mix of exciting and entertaining content, rather than constantly pushing for the next big thing in hardware? As an Apple user, I'm even considering a powerful PC under the TV at the moment!
Before I go, have you ever reviewed Sasquatch (kids play on iOS)? It's really great!
Catcave
GC: We haven't heard of it. Is it something called Sneaky Sasquatch that comes up in a search?
