Roy Keane hailed Scott McTominay after Manchester United’s thrilling 4-3 win over Liverpool and believed that Jurgen Klopp’s side played poorly. FA Cup gave United a 1-0 lead after just 10 minutes

McTominay but goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead 2-1 at half-time. Antony forced extra time by scoring in the 87th minute – ending a 373-day wait for a goal at Old Trafford – but Harvey Elliott then restored Liverpool’s lead.

With less than 10 minutes left in extra time, United seemed likely to be eliminated but Marcus Rashford made it 3-3 before Amad Diallo had a dramatic winner in the 121st minute.

United legend Keane was especially impressed with McTominay for helping Rashford’s goal during extra time.

‘The key here is the precision of the pass [from McTominay],’ Keane said on ITV after the match.

‘It has to be perfect. Rashford is only going to get a one-touch finish. It looks so simple but we saw Liverpool get it wrong.’

Speaking more generally about the game, Keane added: ‘Liverpool controlled the game, but they were so sloppy with their passing.

‘We’ve been so critical of United this season but Old Trafford is bouncing. An incredible game.

‘Man Utd were criticised for going to Anfield and parking the bus. They didn’t park the bus today. Brilliant.

‘It’s a significant result for Erik ten Hag. They were trying to get momentum into the season. They looked like they were going to lose the game.

‘We keep talking about belief and belief to win big matches. You’re at Man Utd to win big football matches, they’ve lost too many this season.

‘They’ve not turned up in the big games. They’ve turned up today and hopefully that can give the players belief. We look forward to the semi-finals.

‘Tactics and the system went out the window [towards the end]. Fernandes was the last man back.

‘He’s one of the slowest players on the pitch. It was about character and personalities. we’ve not seen that from this team. It was nice to see it today.

‘A lot of players have never had Old Trafford bouncing like that. The feel-good factor for these players can be massive for the rest of the season.

‘It was crazy, it was a wild game. We could be here analyzing it all night. Klopp is a good manager, he’ll get these players back on track after the international break.’

‘We saw Liverpool get it wrong!’
