A British citizen has been taken into custody after trying to board a plane with two suitcases packed with suspected cocaine from the Dominican Republic.
The 32-year-old man was apprehended on Thursday at the Punta Cana International Airport in the La Altagracia province before a flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
The National Drug Control Directorate (NDCD) and airport security officials confiscated 36 packages of the illegal substance, reported the anti-drugs squad..
A video shared on Instagram by the agency shows officers in gloves removing the shrink-wrapped packages, barely concealed under clothing, from a black suitcase.
'The Public Ministry and the DNCD have launched an inquiry to determine if there are others involved in the thwarted shipment of the substance to Frankfurt, Germany,' stated the DNCD.
Upon the detection of the drug-filled suitcases by sniffer dogs and the completion of spot tests to identify the substance, the suspect was taken into custody.
