Even though there were signs that inflation stayed higher than expected at the start of the year, Federal Reserve officials indicated that they still plan to lower their key interest rate three times in 2024. However, they expect fewer rate cuts in 2025 and slightly raised their inflation forecasts. They kept their rate unchanged for a fifth time at their last meeting. In their new quarterly projections, they forecast that there would continue to be strong growth and persistent inflation this year and next, so they think that interest rates will have to stay a bit higher for longer.
