The founder of the far-right website Gateway Pundit announced this week that the company is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
TGP Communications, the parent company of the website, is asking for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the Southern District of Florida due to what the founder, Jim Hoft, described as “the progressive liberal lawfare attacks against our media outlet.”
Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, a voter registration officer in Fulton County, Ga., and her mother, Ruby Freeman, who both worked temporarily during the 2020 elections, sued the website in 2021 for publishing false claims about them.
As part of their lawsuit, the two workers claim that the Gateway Pundit, known for promoting former President Trump’s false claims about voter fraud, has “devastated” their reputations, and sparked “threats that [have] forced them to change their phone numbers, delete their online accounts, and fear for their physical safety.”
In his statement about the company’s decision to file for bankruptcy, Hoft clarified, “This is not an admission of fault or culpability. This is a common tool for reorganization and to consolidate litigation when attacks are coming from all sides. It allows TGP to consolidate this lawfare in one court for ultimate resolution.”
