Activist Malala Yousafzai affirmed her support for Palestine in a message on the internet after facing criticism for reportedly collaborating with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on a musical.
“I have and will keep condemning the Israeli government for breaking international laws and committing war crimes, and I support the actions of those working to hold them accountable,” Yousafzai posted on social media platform X. “Publicly and privately, I will keep urging world leaders to work towards a ceasefire and ensure the prompt delivery of crucial humanitarian aid.”
Yousafzai, a 2014 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, has faced criticism for collaborating with Clinton on a new musical called “Snuffs,” which is currently being performed in New York, Arab News reported.
In an op-ed published last November, Clinton argued against a complete cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, stating that it would allow Hamas to regroup and prolong the conflict.
Clinton has supported temporary halts in the fighting to allow aid to reach civilians in Gaza. She mentioned that she would eventually agree to a cease-fire, but it should occur at the right time. She criticized the current Israeli leadership and said international interim leaders should support efforts to help Israel “regain control in Gaza.”
Users have criticized Yousafzai online, calling her a sellout and other things. The outlet reported that she has faced suspicion in her home country of Pakistan, where critics have accused her of promoting Western feminist and liberal ideas in a conservative society.
“I stand against any form of violence against innocent civilians, including the capture of prisoners and hostages. And I stand in solidarity with the people in Gaza whose voices and demands need to be heard,” she said.
“When we see worrying signs of genocide, we cannot delay taking decisive action. We must collaborate to urge our leaders to stop these war crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable,” her post concluded.
