Mount Saint Joseph Academy won its seventh consecutive game and dominated Gwynedd Mercy Academy in girls' lacrosse

Mount Saint Joseph Academy wasn't certain about this season after losing 10 seniors and getting a new head coach. However, they had a successful season last year, winning the District 1-2A championship and reaching the PIAA-2A state semifinals in 2023.

At the beginning of the 2024 season, the Mount lost its first four games with a combined score of 63-36.

The turnaround began on March 26 when the Magic defeated Gwynedd Mercy Academy 15-10. They have continued their winning streak, defeating the Monarchs 17-5 for their seventh straight win.

Amelia Clair from MSJ commented, "It took us some time to find our connection after losing key seniors and our goalie. It took us a few games, but we finally came together as a team, which really helped us."

Katie Westmoreland added, "After our fourth loss, we were determined to do better than last year. We were all motivated to improve and work together as a team."

During the seven-game winning streak, the Mount outscored its opponents 109-45.

Clair acknowledged the team's struggles with their attack but believed they improved by working on new plays and motions. She emphasized the improvement from the beginning of the season.

In their recent win against Gwynedd Mercy, the Magic scored five consecutive goals to end the first quarter and added two more at the start of the second quarter for a 7-0 run in seven minutes.

Clark scored six goals, while Westmoreland and Maggie Rezza each contributed four. Clark and Rezza, both seniors, reached the 100-goal milestone earlier this season, while Westmoreland, a junior, reached triple digits with her third goal on Tuesday.

Westmoreland highlighted the depth of their offense, emphasizing the strength and skills of both upperclassmen and younger players while emphasizing their strong teamwork.

Clair emphasized the team's collective effort in scoring goals, highlighting their support for each other to achieve offensive success.

Madeline Maszczak, Gabrielle Clair and Taylor Delli Carpini each scored a goal in the victory.

Sophia Settelen, the goalie, saved 12 shots.

With less than three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Magic hold the No. 6 seed in District 1-2A rankings with a 7-4 record. Last year, they were the seventh seed at 12-6 before dominating in the district matches.

Westmoreland stated, 'Our goals are different this year. We're approaching each game with a focus on winning. There are new expectations, but they are still positive.'
