Biden shows strong support for Israel during Passover

President Biden expressed his support for Israel during Passover, connecting the Jewish holiday to the Israel-Hamas war and reaffirming his backing for Israel in the conflict.

The holiday teaches us that holding onto faith helps us endure and overcome persecution. Biden wroteWe must never forget the horror of Hamas’ terrible acts.

He continued by stating his unwavering commitment to the safety of the Jewish people, the security of Israel, and its right to exist as an independent Jewish state.

In the midst of growing criticism of the Israeli military operation in Gaza from Democrats, Biden once again pledged to pursue a temporary cease-fire deal to release hostages held by Hamas.

Efforts to free the around 100 individuals held by the group have largely stalled, as the Israeli military approaches an invasion of Rafah — despite strong warnings from the Biden administration and others to avoid a ground conflict in the city.

“My Administration is working tirelessly to free the hostages, and we will not stop until we bring them home,” he said. “We will also continue working towards a two-state solution that ensures equal security, prosperity, and lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.”

The statement also follows Iran's launch of numerous munitions towards Israel in response to a previous Israeli attack. Almost all the munitions were intercepted before reaching their targets, although the incident raised concerns about a broader regional war.

Biden also condemned antisemitismand reiterated his administration’s efforts to combat hateful behavior, which experts have warned has been increasing in recent months.

“The ancient story of persecution against Jews in the Haggadah also reminds us that we must speak out against the alarming rise of Antisemitism — in our schools, communities, and online,” he said. “Silence is complicity.”
