Larian Studios is developing two new games based on their own intellectual property, which might include Divinity: Original Sin 3.

Now that they are well-known developers due to the unexpected success of Baldur’s Gate 3. Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios can pretty much do whatever they want, including being acquired by a larger publisher or working on another licensed product.

They have clearly stated that they do not want to do either of those things, eliminating the possibility of a buyout and recently announced that they will not develop any more Dungeons & Dragons games or DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3. What their next game is remains a mystery, but Larian CEO Swen Vincke has already revealed that it is well underway and he has a detailed plan for the game’s first act.

complete plan for the first part Or rather, he has a complete plan for one of the two new games he’s working on.In a surprising announcement about Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian stated, ‘We’ve decided to take this opportunity to develop our own intellectual properties. We are presently working on two new projects and we are very excited about what the future holds.’

‘It’s still early days – we’ll tell you more about those later down the line. But know that even as our focus turns to these new games, the values that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 are still present here at the Larian castle,’ says the update. Steam pageThen there is a quote from Vincke himself: ‘I don’t know if we’re going to succeed, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever.

‘I get excited like a kid watching the key imagery, want to show it to everyone now and grumble in frustration at having to wait until it’s actually all working. Yes, it’s hype but it’s hype because it really looks and feels good.’

As you can see, there’s no indication of what either of the games are but, more than once, Vincke has suggested that he would like to work on a sci-fi game

he expressed interest in developing a science fiction game

This announcement, however, disappoints fans who hoped it might be a Star Wars game. So, a reasonable guess would be that one of the new games is a new sci-fi intellectual property and the other is, perhaps, Divinity: Original Sin 3 – a new installment in the fantasy series Larian worked on before Baldur’s Gate 3Or they could both be something completely different, we’ll just have to wait until an official announcement is made. Whatever they are, both games are expected to be in early access for at least a year before they’re released, so they may be playable sooner than you think…
