Raffensperger is not upset about the jokes made by Larry David

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) says he’s not angry with Larry David after the comedian made fun of a Georgia law during the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

At the beginning of the season, David’s character gets arrested for giving a bottle of water to a voter in line, which makes him popular among liberals.

In an interview with Dan Abrams on NewsNation Monday, Raffensperger boasted that the state’s Election Integrity Act has successfully reduced wait times at polling places. He also mentioned that the law is not as strictly enforced as depicted in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Raffensperger stated, “We have stated that no campaigning or electioneering is allowed. However, poll workers are allowed to distribute water as they wish,”

The secretary of state previously penned a letter to David, in which Raffensperger praised the comedian for being the first, and as far as they know, the only person arrested for handing out water bottles to voters within 150 feet of a polling station.

Raffensperger told Abrams that he was taking the satire in good humor.

“We’re just having a bit of fun with this,” he said. “I think Larry David probably was surprised to receive that letter from me. ‘Wow, a Republican with a sense of humor, must be a ‘unicorn.’”

The Georgia law specifies that no one should “offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink” within 150 feet of a polling place. Raffensperger pointed out that Georgia was also working to promote early voting and had seen record-breaking early turnout in the 2022 midterm election.
