Police in Vermont are looking for a person who supposedly set a fire outside the office of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Friday. The small fire caused minor damage but didn't harm anyone.
Authorities are searching for an unidentified male who allegedly sprayed a potential accelerant on the office door, ignited it, and ran away. The suspect is still at large and there is no known motive.
Burlington police stated that a serious fire engulfed the door and part of the entrance area, making it difficult for staff inside to leave and putting their lives in danger. The sprinkler system activated and mostly put out the fire.
Earlier on Friday, the Burlington Fire Department received a call and discovered a fire near the entrance of Sanders' third-floor office in Burlington. The office door was moderately damaged and the third floor experienced significant water damage. Sanders' and nearby offices were evacuated.
A representative for Sanders has not yet commented on the situation. Sanders was not present at the office.
