A judge in the State Supreme Court has prevented former President Trump from trying to access NBC's documentary material about adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan stated that Trump's lawyer's subpoena was too broad and did not meet the legal standard to force NBC Universal to hand over documents and items related to the documentary 'Stormy.'
Judge Merchan wrote in the ruling issued on Friday that the defendant is seeking 'all' documents, including vague and overly broad requests.
The judge declined Trump's request to postpone his trial on April 15 until the Supreme Court decides on the presidential immunity matter.
Following the Friday block, Trump's team faced another defeat shortly before his hush-money criminal trial in New York, where Daniels is a key witness for the prosecution.
The first of the four criminal cases against Trump argues that he falsified business records to conceal payments to his former fixer Michael Cohen, who paid Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about an alleged affair with the former president before he took office.
Trump's lawyer attempted to prevent Daniels and Cohen from testifying and issued a subpoena to NBC Universal on March 11 in an effort to obtain documents related to the documentary.
Merchan dismissed Trump's lawyers' claims as 'purely speculative and unsupported,' stating that he would have blocked it because it sought to 'sift through privileged documents of a news organization.'
