‘Self absorbed’ Coronation Street character causes outrage after shocking scenes

Coronation Street fans are angry at Daisy Midgeley’s (Charlotte Jordan) behavior after her dishonest behavior was revealed earlier this week.

The Rovers Return landlady had stolen money that belonged to Carla Connor (Alison King) to buy back the pub at the end of last year.

Having been sold to brewery LS Waterfords, the inn looked set to change forever as ambitious plans revealed it would be redeveloped into a modern gastropub.

Unfortunately, incumbent owner Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) couldn’t find the cash to buy it back – until Daisy stumbled across serial killer Stephen Reid’s (Todd Boyce) journal.

Stephen had stolen £250,000 from knicker factory Underworld, and had been keeping the money hidden away in a bank account for his fake consultancy company Seagull.

Daisy logged into the banking site and transferred every penny over to herself, suggesting they use it to get back behind the bar.

Jenny was firmly against it, but when she heard Carla secured a lucrative new contract that would secure the future of the factory, she warmed to the idea.

Having managed to keep it a secret for months, the secret was exposed this week when Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) played supersleuth and began investigating.

With the women telling everyone that Daisy’s mum Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) had loaned them the money, it became clear that due to the mother and daughter’s broken relationship, that wasn’t true.

Having discovered her Uncle Stephen’s journal hidden away in the Rovers back room, Bethany exposed the ordeal over a disastrous dinner party, with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) rushing home to tell his Aunt Carla.

The following day (April 3), the revelation was exposed during a karaoke night.

Taking the reins, Carla asserted to Jenny that she was forever in debt to her, and that Daisy was fired – but she didn’t seem too bothered, which has angered fans.

‘I really enjoyed seeing Daisy brought down a peg or two by Carla, it is about time her behavior was punished’ said one fan on X/Twitter.

Another fan hoped that fellow viewers could distance Daisy’s actions from actress Charlotte’s excellent performance: ‘I think we have to call Daisy “Miss Marmite” from now on because people either love her or hate her’ they began.

‘Interesting that the actor posted an instagram story after the show then deleted it. I hope that wasn’t because of hateful comments. Folk need to realize Corrie is fiction.’

‘Well at least it’s opened Ryan’s eyes to what a selfish cow Daisy is. She definitely should get back with Daniel – two selfish, self absorbed people together’ said another.

One added: ‘I love Daisy regardless! Can’t wait for revenge Daisy style…’
