Jeff Stelling criticizes a particular moment from Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Burnley as an ‘absolute disgrace’

Jeff Stelling thinks there was one moment from Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Burnley which was an ‘absolute disgrace’ and believes the Blues got lucky.

Cole Palmer scored twice for the west Londoners but goals from Josh Cullen and Dara O’Shea saw the Clarets leave Stamford Bridge with a hard-earned point.

Palmer’s opener from the penalty spot was controversial with some feeling it shouldn’t have been given for Lorenz Assignon’s foul on Mykhailo Mudryk.

Assignon was shown a second yellow card which reduced Burnley to 10 men as their manager Vincent Kompany reacted furiously and was sent to the stands.

‘They (Chelsea) should have lost the game,’ Stelling told talkSPORT. ‘That was one of the worst refereeing decisions I have ever seen in my life.

‘To give a penalty against Burnley and a red card for Assignon. It was an absolute disgrace.

‘If the referee on the pitch can’t get it right, for goodness sake, what is the VAR doing? What’s he doing?

‘Has he gone for an early cup of tea? Is he eating a chocolate biscuit? He can’t have been watching what I was watching.’

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino was left angry with his team’s performance against Burnley, admitting he was ‘upset’ and ‘disappointed’.

‘After today, we didn’t show the capacity, the energy, the anger,’ the Argentine said.

‘Not the minimum to compete in the Premier League. In the defensive phase we concede too much. That is why I am so upset and disappointed.

‘It’s more here [in your heart] and here [in your head] than in your legs to be strong like a group, to be strong like a team.

‘That is sometimes the circumstance for different reasons we are so slow evolving in this area.’
