Haason Reddick got what he wanted, Eagles traded him

Haason ‘Hoss’ Reddick has found a new job.

The experienced Eagles pass rusher achieved his goal of being traded to a team that would pay him. The New York Jets offered a conditional third round draft pick in 2026 and are likely to sign him to a new contract. For now, the Jets are responsible for the $14.5 million Reddick is owed this season.

It became clear that Reddick would be leaving the Eagles when they gave Jets part-time pass rusher Byrce Huff a three-year, $51.1 million deal early in free agency. Huff said he anticipated competing for a starting role on a defense with Josh Sweat on the right side and the Eagles looking to use Nolan Smith, a first-round pick in the 2023 draft, more. Amid trade rumors, Sweat reportedly accepted a lower salary to stay with the Eagles.

Huff is now earning more than Reddick, who is no longer among the top 10 highest-paid pass rushers in the NFL. The highest earner, Nick Bosa, makes $34 million on average. Maxx Crosby, in tenth place, earns an average salary of $23.5 million.

Reddick, 29, is one of the NFL leaders with 50.5 sacks in the last four seasons. The Temple University graduate achieved 27 sacks in two seasons with the Eagles, but only 11 this past season.

Reddick was unhappy about being asked to drop into coverage frequently when “defensive chief” Matt Patricia took over the defensive controls from coordinator Sean Desai, who was demoted with four games left in the regular season.

The third-round pick can potentially become a second-round selection if Reddick meets certain goals. As per Jets Country, it would become a second-round draft pick if Reddick plays 67.5% of the snaps and achieves 10 or more sacks.
