Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes Conor Gallagher is considered one of the club’s top players with Levi Colwill showing why he has a lot of potential.
The Blues have had a disappointing season again with Mauricio Pochettino facing criticism from fans multiple times this year.
11th in the standings with the chances of qualifying for Europe almost gone, Chelsea have little to show despite spending over £1billion in the transfer window since Todd Boehly took over in 2022.
Despite a tough season, the club's young talents such as Cole Palmer, who joined from Manchester City in the summer, have given some hope.
Homegrown talents Gallagher and Colwill have also impressed the former defender Cahill, who achieved success at Stamford Bridge for seven years, winning two Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, and a Champions League.
Cahill also thinks that the midfield partnership of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, which was assembled at a cost of over £200million, is 'improving', while a group of young players are still adjusting to the club's demands.
‘I’ve enjoyed watching Levi [Colwill], who is developing continuously. He has a lot of potential,’ Cahill told the Evening Standard.
‘I like [Conor] Gallagher, who I think is one of the best players at the moment. I like the way he plays, his pressing, his professionalism, and simply being a great footballer.
‘I believe his qualities can influence the rest of the squad. That would be great.
‘I think Enzo [Fernandez] and [Moises] Caicedo’s midfield partnership is progressing and getting stronger.
‘Cole Palmer is having a fantastic season and is a bright spot. I think [Axel] Disasi and [Malo] Gusto have adapted to Chelsea.’
Chelsea have made it to the FA Cup semi-finals where they will face Manchester City in April.
‘The cups have been important,’ Cahill added. ‘The FA Cup is another opportunity to have that experience, to develop while aiming to win a trophy here and there. This young squad needs to develop before seeing where they can go.’
