The Football Association have defended England’s controversial new kit and confirmed it will not be scrapped before this weekend’s friendly against Brazil.
Several people from within and outside of football have criticized the new Nike design, which includes a multi-colored St. George’s Cross on the back of the collar.
The Three Lions will wear the kit during Saturday’s match with Brazil and the friendly against Belgium three days later, both at Wembley.
‘The new England 2024 Home kit has several design elements intended as a tribute to the 1966 World Cup winning team,’ a statement explained.
‘The colored trim on the cuffs is influenced by the training gear worn by England’s 1966 heroes, and the same colors also appear on the design on the back of the collar.
‘This is not the first time that different colored St George’s cross-inspired designs have been used on England shirts.
‘We are very proud of the red and white St George’s cross – the England flag.
‘We understand what it means to our fans, and how it unites and inspires, and it will be displayed prominently at Wembley tomorrow – as it always is – when England play Brazil.’
