England captain Harry Kane He will not be able to play in the friendly match against Brazil on Saturday because of an ankle injury.
Kane, along with three other players, missed training on Wednesday before the friendly along with Bukayo Saka, Jordan Henderson and Cole Palmer.
The striker got an ankle issue during his most recent match for Bayern Munich, exiting the game in the 82nd minute after hitting the post.
The injury is not believed to be serious, which is why the 30-year-old still joined the national team earlier this week.
Nevertheless, he will be given a break for the Brazil match, but there is optimism that he will participate in the friendly against Belgium next Tuesday.
This surely means Gareth Southgate will need to select either Ivan Toney or Ollie Watkins to start against Brazil, as both are competing to be Kane’s backup at Euro 2024.
Alternatively, Marcus Rashford might be moved to a more central position.
Southgate has had to manage several injury setbacks that have disrupted his preparations for this summer’s tournament in Germany, with these friendlies being the final matches before he chooses his 23-man squad.
To add to the complications, Saka has now withdrawn from the squad entirely due to injury, just over a week before his Arsenal team faces a significant match against Premier League title contenders Manchester City.
Kane is England’s all-time leading scorer and has once again been in outstanding form this season, scoring 37 goals in 35 games for Bayern.
