Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was not impressed by Robert Sanchez’s performance in Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester City.
Chelsea led 2-0 at half-time of Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge with goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer.
It could have been more if Raheem Sterling's penalty had not been saved by Jakub Stolarczyk.
Leicester had opportunities in the first half, and some of them were due to goalkeeper Sanchez's nervousness in possession, as opposition players constantly pressured him and tried to block his passes back into his own goal.
When asked if Sanchez's performance had unsettled him, Blues striker Hasselbaink said on BBC Sport: 'A little bit!'
‘He hasn’t played for a long time, he hasn’t played regularly. He takes a lot of time when the ball comes back to him and he gets himself in trouble.
‘He needs to get better at that, he’s taking a little bit too much risk and too much time. He’s lucky.
‘The only defence I can give him is he got injured, he’s not played for a long time, he’s lost his place in the team and he wants to come now and show that he’s better than the other one but he’s not showing that at the moment.’
Sanchez started the season as Chelsea’s No.1 after signing from Brighton in a deal worth £20million, though he would keep just three clean sheets in his first 16 Premier League games.
Following a bad injury sustained in the 2-0 defeat at Everton in October, the 26-year-old has played just twice including Sunday’s cup tie, with Dorde Petrovic performing well in his absence.
Fellow pundit Dion Dublin added: ‘When you get a keeper whose slow with his feet and not very comfortable you’ve got to tell him to clear it.
‘There’s a couple of times he’s come out and looked like he wants to claim it but there’s no danger there at all. Stay on your line.’
In the second-half, Sanchez would play a part in conceding their first goal to Leicester as he was caught way off his line and couldn’t get back to save Axel Disasi’s bizarre own goal.
