Soap stars Kara Tointon, Will Mellor and Emmett J Scanlan are set to collaborate in the upcoming season of the TV show Channel 5’s The Teacher.
The series first aired in 2022 and focused on a teacher, portrayed by Sheridan Smith, who was accused of having a romantic relationship with a student.
According to Televisual, Channel 5 has approved another season of the thriller, this time featuring new characters.
It will revolve around two teachers who engage in a risky romance. Kara, recognized for her role as Dawn Swann in EastEnders, will star alongside Will Mellor (Harvey Gaskell in Coronation Street) and Emmett J Scanlan (Brendan Brady in Hollyoaks).
Kara will portray Dani, while Will and Emmett will play Jimmy and Tim.
‘The Teacher II continues the story of Dani, a teacher who is passionate about her job’, the summary states.
‘She serves as a mentor and inspiration to her students, but lacks a satisfying marriage with intimacy and mutual desire. This leads her to an impulsive affair with a colleague that initially meets her needs, but soon gets out of hand.
‘When a student goes missing on a school trip, Dani blames herself for being too easily distracted. As things take a sinister turn, she is compelled to lie and quickly sees her life falling apart. She risks everything to make amends for the mistakes that she, to some extent, is responsible for.’
Sebastian Cardwell, deputy chief content officer for the UK at Paramount, commented on the news: ‘This is another compelling and thrilling story stemming from The Teacher, which was a huge success for the channel.
‘We have an incredibly talented cast on board and I am eager for them to bring this story to life.’
Will Mellor recently appeared in another TV show, Mr Bates vs the Post Office.
The 47-year-old actor from Corrie plays Lee Castleton in the four-part series, which narrates the tale of former sub postmaster Alan Bates who lost his Post Office in north Wales after being accused of theft.
In what has been labeled one of the UK’s ‘most significant miscarriages of justice’, Alan discovered that he was not the only one, and there were hundreds of others who had been impacted by the scandal, despite being innocent.
Numerous innocent individuals were found guilty of theft, lost their residences, and fell into debt, and 236 were imprisoned. Additionally, four individuals committed suicide.
Since the show aired, millions of people have shown their support for the actual victims of the incident, and have been left devastated after learning the true story.
