A British driver is said to have hit a family of five and caused the death of a five-month-old baby in Lanzarote .

Brown, a hotel worker aged 23, is under house arrest and could go to jail after a Ford Fiesta swerved onto a pavement and hit a group of pedestrians on Monday night.

She was employed at a hotel in Playa Blanca, where the accident occurred, and is set to appear in court the next day.

A five-month-old baby lost their life, while their parents and grandparents were hurt and taken to the hospital.

Brown also struck a Swedish mother and daughter, who had to be airlifted to the hospital when the mother’s heart reportedly stopped three times.

Vladimir Guadalupe, the police chief of Yaiza, stated: ‘The investigation is still ongoing and could take another week. MailOnline: ‘The driver will appear in court but I cannot say yet what the charges will be.

‘The legal alcohol limit is 0.25 and this person exceeded that limit, so the charge will reflect that.’

The identity of the victims involved in the crash has not been disclosed.

Brown informed the police that she had a problem with the steering, which caused the crash.

She was employed at a hotel in Playa Blanca, where the accident occurred, and is due to appear in court the following day.

Oscar Noda, the mayor of Yaiza, said: ‘The accident resulted in seven victims, including the five-month-old baby who died.

‘The survivors belonged to two families, one from Sweden and the other from British descent.

‘They are the parents of the deceased child and the baby’s maternal grandparents.

‘The baby’s father and maternal grandmother were in critical condition this morning. All the survivors are still in the hospital.

‘We wish them all a speedy recovery.’

A mother and daughter from Sweden were also hit by the ‘out of control’ car.
