Doctor Who enthusiasts are very thrilled about the news that a legendary figure is expected to return specifically for the 2024 festive special.

On Christmas Last year, Ncuti Gatwa played his role as the Fifteenth Doctor after debuting in the 60th anniversary special The Giggle.

He is set to return as the Time Lord in a few months as Russell T Davies continues as the returning showrunner.

When the The revival of Doctor Who started in 2005, led by Russell, with Steven Moffat writing a two-episode arc.

He became the head writer and showrunner of the sci-fi BBC series from 2010 to 2017, and played a crucial part in Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi being cast.

It's now reported that he will write the 2024 Christmas special.

According to RadioTimes.com, a clue was seen that Steven was on board as the writer of the festive episode.

It is claimed that producer Alison Sterling's CV was updated to include her involvement in the December 25 episode… with Steven mentioned as the writer.

However, the BBC chose not to comment on the report.

Russell also previously mentioned that he would be the one to write the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special… so we are interested to find out for sure in due time!

Whovians responded with great excitement over the speculation that Steven might be back on board.

Reddit user pangolintoastie wrote: 'Given that some of the best episodes of the previous RTD era were Moffat's, I would be happy about this if it's true.'

Mikel_jc mentioned that despite Russell previously stating that he was going to helm the Christmas episode, he would 'love' to see Steven write for Doctor Who again, saying that his work was his 'favorite era and episodes'.

Filmologic stated: 'Honestly I really like Moffat's episodes. Are they perfect? No, but they're usually a lot of creative fun and some of them among the very best. Glad to see him return.'

0x1RIVERSONG also added: 'I hope it's true, his eras and his episodes are always my favorites.'

Another Reddit user called IBrosiedon emphasized that Steven is 'one of the greatest Doctor who writers of all time', highlighting the fact that 'Russell has always been a very vocal fan'.

'If I was RTD and tasked with saving Doctor Who and bringing it back into the mainstream after the Chibnall era then the first thing I would do is call Moffat and get him to come back and write something,' they added.

Demerchmichael also remarked: 'RTD and Steven Moffat out here taking a (well deserved) victory lap.'

Last month, Steven shared a picture on Instagram of himself with former Doctor Who companions Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman, who played Amy Pond and Clara Oswald respectively.

'Old pals, old guy …,' he said in his post, while Russell remarked below: 'Oh amazing! ♥️.'

Doctor Who can be seen on BBC iPlayer.
